Riley, Jamie and Sidney asked us at the beginning of the summer if we could not pay them any allowance or babysitting money until the end of the summer. We, of course, said 'sure, no problem'. I was grateful to have a break from visiting the bank for change and thought it was wonderful that my children were planning ahead and saving for something.Through their whispered conversations we quickly found out what they were saving for! A new pet HAMSTER! Well, the summer came and went. On the first FHE night of September, it was allowance time and the discussions resumed. They had their plan all in place: Riley would buy the cage (the most expensive part), Jamie would buy the hamster and the plastic exercise ball and Sidney would buy the food, treats and bedding for the cage. After much resistance from Daddy and lots of persuasion tactics by Mom and the kids, we made a family trip to the pet store and came home with CHIPS.
Chips was to reside in Riley's room to replace the goldfish we had for 3 years that recently passed away. We did not however count on the fact that Chips is nocturnal and very noisy at night. So after two nights, chips was relocated to his permanent home in the laundry room. The kids love playing with him and showing him off to all our guests. He is a playful, fun little creature and we enjoy having him as our pet!

I am continually impressed by your children's resourcefulness and willingness to work together. And their willingness to pool money for a common goal. How awesome is that!
